A gun off the streets
Mhluzi police arrested two men who allegedly pointed a firearm at a victim on Monday morning in Thembisa, Mhluzi.
The unsuspecting victim was driving in Lekoko street to work, when two men in another vehicle pointed a firearm at him.
After the incident, the two male suspects parked at the Sasol Garage, on the corner of Protea and Ngwako Street, in a Toyota Conquest.
The complainant saw the parked vehicle with the men inside and immediately drove to the police station to report the matter.
Police reacted swiftly and approached the vehicle and found the men inside.
The police informed them of their suspicions and requested to search them and their vehicle.They discovered a firearm under the passenger seat.
Chris Siphiwe Mathibela (20) and Tshepo Pule Makua (20) were both arrested.
Mathibela was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and Makua was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm; pointing of a firearm; and drinking and driving.
“The reporting of the incident and the quick reaction from our members removed another illegal firearm from our streets. Fighting crime begins with every individual therefore I urge all community members to report illegal firearms and the misuse of firearms by those with licences. We must work together so that we may feel and be safe in our community,” said Lt Col Moses Maepa.
The two suspects appeared in Court on Wednesday and were remanded in custody.
