Update: R2 000 for info about archer

Residents have put their money where their mouths are and upped the initial R500 reward money for information that can lead to the arrest of the person responsible for wounding a dog with an arrow, to R2 000.

The poor animal tried to chew the arrow out of his shoulder.

When he was found, the wound had already become septic and a decision was made to humanely euthanize the dog.

A post mortem later confirmed that the animal would not have been able to recover from its wounds.

Mr. Lourens du Plessis, from Specialized Protection Group, also owns Red Feather Archery.

He had a look at the type of arrow that was found and concluded that it was a low grain arrow head, usually used by women and children but sometimes also by men during practice shooting.

They suspect that it was most likely a young person that shot the dog.

If anybody has information about the culprit, they can phone Mr Du Plessis on 071 381 0903 or his son Gerdus on 076 031 6426 or the Middelburg SPCA on 013 246 1201.
