15 Years for raping 13 year old
A rapist was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in the regional court this week after he raped a thirteen year old girl in 2012.
Magistrate Deon Minnie sent Lucky Machaba (36) to jail after he was found guilty of the crime.
The child testified that she had only known Machaba for about three weeks as he was the boyfriend of one of her neighbours. At that time the family was living on a farm on the Vandyksdrift road.
On the 4th of August 2012 at approximately 17:00 the family was sitting outside.
The girl’s sister requested Machaba to go and buy cold drink, while also instructing the 13-year old to fetch an empty bottle from inside the house.
After doing so the teenager left with the accused. On their way to buy the cold drink, the accused told her that he had forgotten his money at his house. They thereupon went to his house to fetch the money.
She testified that she sat down on a chair, while the accused was seated on the bed. He instructed her to sit on the bed as well.
When she declined a second time, he picked her up and put her on the bed. After he raped her he demanded money from her.
The child was taken to a doctor and after examining her, the doctor took her underwear. It was later used for DNA testing.
Machaba was apprehended the next day.
• In his defence Machaba said that the allegations against him were fabricated.
