Red Ants invade Nyanyatho

The Red Ants with pangas and rubber bullets invaded Nyanyatho in Mhluzi on Wednesday.

A Company, Khayalethu Home Loans, now known as Hlano Financial services built over 500 houses in Nyanyatho in the 1990’s.

Since 2010, the current occupants have been given a number of eviction orders, they however refuse to vacate the houses.

On Wednesday morning, the Observer was called to the area where the Red Ants allegedly assaulted some of the occupants.

One of the families of five, where the father of the house is blind due to Sugar Diabetes, have been living in the house since December 1990.

“We were in the house when he heard a bang on the door. About 10 men in red overalls stormed into our house and started throwing out our house hold items. They assaulted us,” said Ndumiso Nkonde.

Community members came out in numbers to “help” the Nkonde and Nzima family.

Community members returned items into the houses before marching to the Nkangala District offices for intervention, where they were told they would get feed back on Thursday.

The Mhluzi SAPS, on the scene told community members that they were not aware that the Red Ants were coming to the area.
