Provincial Department reneges on commitment to cover costs of American trip for Mpumlanga Youth Choir

The Mpumalanga Youth Choir had to unpack their suitcases after the money pledged towards their participation in Talent America had not been paid in time by the Provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation.

The choir would have flown to New York on Tuesday to take part in the talent competition.
Conductor Mr André Oosthuizen who also serves on the choir’s committee told www.mobserver.co.za that all was not lost after organizers of Talent America had confirmed to him that the choir was welcome at next year’s event.

He welcomed the opportunity and said that it afforded the choir the chance to grow and hone its talents to be a stronger competitor next year.

Local Councilor Mr Diphale Motsepe announced that the department would cover all costs for the choir’s trip, on behalf of the department’s member of the provincial executive council in May.
