Pedestrian found alive on N4 after hit and run

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on the N4 near the Van Dyksdrift offramp last week Saturday.

Passing motorists only noticed the man leaning against the slope of the offramp, at first light. Jana Boshoff, who was travelling to Johannesburg that morning, said that she initially thought the man was sleeping next to the road, but then noticed blood pooling at his feet.

She did not want to stop due to safety concerns and alerted Trac Assist.

Passersby also informed operators at the Middelburg Toll Gate of the man lying next to the road. They presumed that he was dead.

When ER24 medics arrived at the scene, the man was found to still be alive. He was rushed to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital with serious injuries.

It is presumend that the man was struck by a vehicle, who failed to stop, before sunrise.
