Families of N11 horror crash await DNA results
Eight of the nine families that lost their loved ones in the tragic crash on the N11 last Friday, gathered at the Middelburg State Mortuary.
The SAPS Victim Identification Centre conducted DNA samples on the family members to determine whether their DNA matched the deceased.
The families were told that the samples will only be available in two weeks.
The MEC of Public Works, Gillion Mashego, said human error was to blame for the accident.
“In this incident, the driver of a bakkie overtook the truck and distracted the driver of the taxi, the bakkie itself went into a ditch,” said MEC Mashego.
The incident occurred on the N11 between Middelburg and Hendrina.

Eight of the victims were travelling from eMalahleni where they were undergoing an induction.
The ninth person’s identity is unknown.
The MEC from the Mpumalanga Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Gabisile Shabalala, said her department has launched a road safety campaign that encourages motorists to take breaks when travelling.
