Alleged Gholfsig attacker behind bars
Police are celebrating a victory after an anonymous tip-off led to the arrest of the Gholfsig attacker.
On 12 June, a woman who lives in Gholfsig was brutally attacked and sexually assaulted within the confines of her home, before her attacker fled on foot.
The resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, was seen stumbling infront of a passing vehicle, bound, gagged and bleeding after narrowly escaping with her life.
Members from the neighbourhood, rushed to her aid, only to watch the suspect fleeing into Mhluzi’s direction.

One of the bystanders managed to take a photo of the fleeing man, who covered his face, and the photo was widely shared on social media.
The attacker remained at large for well over a month, until the bravery of a law-abiding Mhluzi resident, resulted in the tip-off on the suspect’s location.
The Mhluzi resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, says that she initially reported the suspect to the Mhluzi police, who never pitched.
Living alone with her children, she became concerned about having such a dangerous man walking the streets.
Out of desperation, the tipster called www.mobserver.co.za, who in turn, contacted the Middelburg SAPS office.
A speedy response led to the arrest of the attacker, who is due to appear in court on charges of sexual assualt.
