Readers contacted www.mobserver.co.za with reports of smoke at the substation next to Mandela Drive on the way to Mhluzi as well as at the substation in Gholfsig.

Unconfirmed reports have also been received about another fire at a substation in Jeppe Street. A www.mobserver.co.za journalist visited the scene but could see no smoke or visible signs of a fire.*

DA ward councilor Damien Klopper confirmed reports of a fire at the Gholfsig substaion. But has no further details at this point.

The cause and extent of the damage as well as what parts of Middelburg will affected is not currently known.
