Violent protest action leads to road closures

Violent protest action from community members in the Groblersdal area has led to the closure of several roads in the vicinity.

Warnings to motorists have been sent out on social media and photos have been circulating of protesters building large structures out of bricks in the middle of the road.

The R25 (Bronkhorstspruit/Groblersdal road), the R573 (Siyabuswa), as well as the R573 (Toitskraal), have all been blocked by protesters and the routes have been declared unsafe for motorists.

The affected roads have been closed with burning tyres, rocks and corrugated iron sheets.

Motorists have been warned to make use of alternative routes.

• According to information, the N11 (Groblersdal) remains unaffected.
