Land dispute and forceful eviction set to continue today, EFF cries foul

An ongoing land dispute has resulted in around 70 structures being demolished by municipal law enforcement since last week.

EFF Councillor Mr Enos Sebesho says the evictions and demolishing of structures were done without a court order.

The evictions continued today with residents saying that no alternative housing have been organized by the municipality.
Councillor Sebesho was present during the evictions.

“I was told that the municipality was behind the move, while the Siyathuthuka Trust allegedly owns the land, why would the municipality involve itself with a private property dispute,” Mr Sebesho told www.mobserver.co.za.

Lawyers for both factions were present at the area today, where further evictions were underway.
Mr Sebesho accuses the ANC promising thousands of houses, but failing to deliver.

“Within Steve Tshwete Municipality there’s a backlog of more than 10 000 houses, how do the ANC plan to ever catch up when they evict families from property which does not belong to it,” Councillor Sebesho says.

He says the illegal land invaders have relocated to Doornkop, where they also now reside illegally, since Doornkop is also private property which has been invaded so forcefully that the actual owners are powerless to remove the thousands occupying the land.

The matter is now in the hands of the lawyers with Mr Sebesho saying that the EFF would agree to relocation once true ownership of the land is proven.

“Does it belong to the municipality or does it belong to the Siyathuthuka Trust, why is state resources being wasted when ownership is under dispute?” Mr Sebesho wants to know.

Police were on the scene again today, ensuring that the evictions and demolishing of structures remain orderly.

Residents however said that they would make the area ungovernable if their demands are not met.
