All well with Baby X who turns six on September 12

Six years ago Baby X was found abandoned after birth next to a railway line where a teenager heading into the night heard her whimpers and alerted the SAPS.

The newborn was found among building rubble, wrapped in a newspaper with the umbilical cord still attached.

Baby X miraculously survived and was later taken to the uMephi House, after being treated at the Middelburg Hospital.
The story covered by www.mobserver.co.za attracted global attention with hundreds of offers to adopt her.

She drew so much attention that uMephi House had to make an appeal to the public to stop showing up at the orphanage with donations.

An international adoption was facilitated by uMephi House.

Former social worker Ms Sumari Roothman told www.mobserver.co.za that she was doing well but that no other information can be released due to strict child safety and privacy laws.

The youngster turns six on September 12.
