Man flees on foot after collision leaves several injured

Several occupants of a taxi were injured in a collision on the corner of Wes- and Bhimy Damane Street earlier this evening.

The accident involved a taxi and a silver Corsa bakkie after the two collided at the traffic light.

Members of the police inspect the abandoned Corsa.

According to bystanders who witnessed the collision, the taxi allegedly skipped the red traffic light. The driver of the Corsa, however, fled the scene with a bleeding gash on his head and the other parties involved alleged that the man “smelled of alcohol”.

Bystanders assess the damage to the taxi.

ER 24 Ambulance Services responded to the scene, where the driver of the taxi as well as the commuters were treated for injuries.

Members of the security sector and the police set after the driver who fled from the scene.

Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.

First respondents blocked off part of the road as casualties were tended to.
