Water woes

The water pipe that burst at the reservoir near Gholfsig has caused concern for residents.

Www.mobserver.co.za received a complaint from a concerned resident, who said a pipe burst two weeks ago near the reservoir and has not been fixed. Construction workers are currently replacing asbestos pipes with PVC pipes.

Early this year, water supply was interrupted at Extensions 5, 6, 8, Tokologo and Malope Village, due to the bursting of the water supply pipelines conveying raw water from the Middelburg Dam to the Vaalbank Water Purification Works.

The complainant said he fears that the municipality will lose millions of litres of water.

Municipal spokesperson, Prudence Magutle said the municipality is aware of the matter.

“During construction unforeseen challenges occurred. We are currently working on the matter,” said Magutle.
