Woman buried under rubble after taxi crashes into home

A woman narrowly escaped death when a taxi crashed into her house in Mhluzi yesterday evening (Sunday).

The taxi driver lost control of his vehicle, which then climbed the pavement and crashed into Ms Angie Mmathladi’s house. Ms Mmathladi lost all of her belongings when the taxi drove into her house in Extension 4 at about 18:00. According to Ms Mmathladi she was in the kitchen cooking, when her microwave and kitchen cupboards fell on her. She was trapped inside the house and residents came to her rescue.

The accident scene last night after a taxi drove into Ms Angie Mmatladi’s house in Mhluzi.

She was transported to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital for medical treatment. Ms Mmathladi was alone when the incident happened. “I might have lost all my belongings, however, I am grateful that God spared my life,” she said. Ms Mmathladi said the Middelburg District Taxi Association vowed to rebuild her house, however, she still needs groceries, a refrigerator and a microwave.
