Taxi owner involved in shooting, identified

The taxi owner who was shot and wounded in Mhluzi has been identified by the Mhluzi SAPS.

Sindiswa Khumalo was critically wounded at his residence in Plain Section, Mhluzi, on 18 December after suspects in an unidentified vehicle opened fire on him and another man. According to Mhluzi SAPS Media Spokesperson, Sergeant Thabitha Leshilo, the police received a complaint about a shooting at around 19:45. Upon their arrival at the scene of crime, the officer on duty was approached by eye witness, Sibelele Zuma, who was with Khumalo at the time of the incident. The two men were outside Mr Khumalo’s residence on their way to a vehicle, when suspects in a white Renault opened fire, wounding Khumalo in the shoulder and hand. Mr Zuma, who was also armed, fired back in retaliation, causing the suspects to flee the scene. Mr Khumalo was taken to hospital where he was treated for his injuries. A case of attempted murder was opened by the Mhluzi SAPS and an investigation is underway.
