Polmaise explosion death toll rises to three, survivor flung through air

A survivor in the deadly fuel explosion at Kego Resources (old Polmaise Mine) is slowly recovering from serious injuries at home.

Mannecus Palmer’s wife, Janie, contacted www.mobserver.co.za to share her husband’s traumatic story.

Mannecus (27) was situated on top of the diesel tanker when the explosion went off, and was flung over 4 metres into the air before landing on the ground. He was rushed to hospital where he was treated for cracked ribs and injuries to his feet.

Janie told www.mobserver.co.za how her husband is struggling to come to terms with the incident and is suffering from trauma.

According to Janie, Brandon Jarvis, one of the victims who was killed in the explosion, was a very good friend of Mannecus. He was also well acquainted with the other victims.

The Palmer family wished to extend their deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the other victims.

*It was later confirmed that a third victim lost their life in the explosion.

Lorrette van der Walt commented on the Middelburg Observer Facebook Page, stating that her husband, Hannes was the third victim to succumb to his injuries.

Www.mobserver.co.za has still not managed to make contact with the van der Walt family for comment.

*The three victims killed in the explosion are Brandon Jarvis (25), Jandre Janse van Rensburg (22) and Hannes van der Walt.
