Wet roads claim five lives in multiple collisions

Wet driving conditions in the Middelburg area has resulted in two fatal accidents that have claimed five lives this evening.

*According to an eye witness, the right lane of the N4 (eastbound) is closed at Alzu Petro Port after a single-vehicle accident. The accident took place between 18:00 and 19:00 under the bridge after the driver of an SUV supposedly lost control on the wet road. One person was killed and another seriously injured.

*Four other people were killed in an accident on the R33 between Belfast and Stoffberg this evening. According to information, the accident involved a Ford Fiesta carrying four men. The accident took place near Belfast in the Schoongesicht Pass after the driver lost control and collided with the rocks alongside the road. The occupants were flung from the vehicle and killed upon impact.
