Middelburg Mayor alive and well, recuperating from Covid-19
In attempts to squash rumours that the mayor has passed away, the Steve Tshwete Municipality released a press release to assure the public that the Executive Mayor, Bagudi Tolo, is alive and recovering from Covid-19 at the Life Midmed Hospital.
Municipal manager, Bheki Khenisa, assured members of the public that rumors of the mayor’s passing are untrue.
In the press release he said that the mayor is currently receiving “phenomenal medical treatment” for Covid-19 at the Life Midmed Hospital since he was admitted a week ago.
It is expected that the mayor will come off his oxygen machine by tomorrow, Friday 8 January, and there are hopes that he will be released from hospital soon.
The Tolo family has however lost a close relative due to illness recently.
Mayor Tolo sent a message and urged members of the community to adhere to Covid-19 regulations to keep safe.
“The second wave of infections are much worse than the first one. The only way to flatten the curve, is to take responsibility for ones health. Stay at home. Wear your mask. Sanitize. Maintain social distance,” the statement reads.
“Together we can fight this deadly virus and overcome our greatest challenge,” Executive Mayor Tolo said.
