The municipality does not implement President Cyril Ramaphosa’s relaxation of lockdown regulations on announcement.

Instead, the municipality only implements lockdown relaxations once they have been published formally in the Government Gazette.

“We expect the Gazette with the new lockdown restrictions early this week, and once received we will plan on how to implement and monitor the restrictions,” spokeswoman Ms Prudence Magutle said.

Ms Magutle says that presently all parks and recreational areas, like public swimming pools, including Middelburg Dam, will remain closed to the public, “We have to follow the law and this is why we cannot precede government with implementing relaxed restrictions, before we are formally mandated to do so,” Ms Magutle concluded.

She says the municipality will make an announcement on how public and recreational areas will open, and how many people will be allowed, within the week.
