Six Mozambicans in crime sindicate arrested

During a joint operation by the Crime Prevention Unit of the eMalahleni SAPS and CSC Tactical over the weekend, six Mozambicans, believed to be part of a big syndicate operating in Middelburg and eMalahleni, were arrested in the eMalahleni area.

On Friday four Mozambicans were arrested at Old Coronation, where the police seized a Conqueror Commander Platinum Off Road Camper, camping equipment and several 17 and 18 inch wheels.

There was also a trailer without wheels on the premises, but it did not have a Vin number and they left it on the scene.

Two days later two Mozambicans were arrested and the police seized the same trailer (now with wheels), which was towed by a bakkie, near Sun One (close to the Klipfontein Dam).

According to Captain Danie Hall (Witbank Police Spokesperson), it is believed that the group were already on their way to Mozambique.

• The Off Road Camper belongs to the former Hawks Commander in Middelburg, Faan Steenkamp. It was stolen last Thursday at his house in Kanonkop.
He thanked his former colleagues, as well as all the above policemen and members of CSC Tactical who helped with the recovering of his camper.

• The camping equipment and trailer which the police seized, belongs to Mr Wiley Harringhton (Jnr). It was stolen about two weeks ago at his house in Dennesig.

• The Mozambicans who appeared in the Witbank Magistrates Court on Monday are: Ferdinand Mathosi (29), Castigo Sibulele (29), Abel Chavango (31), Vincent Dzimba (30), Fernando Canza (27) and Rooi Makamu (29).

Bail was denied.
