Manhunt launched after officer was disarmed of service weapon
A manhunt has been launched for a 31 year old suspect following an incident in which an SAPS member was disarmed of his service weapon.
The incident occurred Friday evening at the time when the man was being taken to Dullstroom Police Station for questioning regarding a murder case.
It was reported that the officer was busy investigating the murder case in which a 33 year old woman was killed and her body was found in a pool of blood at a shack in the early hours of Friday.
The incident is said to have occurred at Sakhelwe township near Dullstroom and during their probe, police needed to ask the man some questions in relation to the case.
Whilst on their way, the man managed to disarm the Investigating Officer of his pistol before fleeing the scene.
The member then called for back up where members from Lydenburg K9 Unit responded but upon arrival, the suspect was already on the lam, and a manhunt was launched.
Police are currently requesting Mr Moses Maseko, who can be of great assistance in this investigation, to contact the Investigating Officer as urgently as possible, or anyone who may know of Mr Maseko’s whereabouts to contact the police as well.
A case of common robbery is being investigated and the police urge anyone with information that can assist in arresting the suspect to contact Detective Sergeant Herbert Ntshwane Lerobane on 0787302831 or 013-2540141.
