SAPS mourns loss of veteran detective

The local SAPS is still reeling with shock after the death of Captain Shadrack Nkosi of the local detective branch, who died in an accident on the old Witbank-road yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.

Captain Nkosi was accompanied by Sergeant Chico Mtsweni to Nigel Correctional Services, where they booked out a suspect awaiting trial in Middelburg.

Details about the prisoner are not being released by the SAPS at this time, as he is yet to appear in court.

Police spokeswoman, Captain Khanyesile Zwane, told www.mobserver.co.za that Captain Nkosi was a veteran detective tasked with investigating serious and violent crimes.

The accident occurred on the way back to Middelburg from Nigel.

Both the prisoner and Sergeant Mtsweni is in a stable condition in hospital.

At this stage, it’s still unclear what led to the accident in which the driver of the minibus with which the police vehicle collided, was lightly injured.

Captain Zwane says a memorial service is being planned and that details about the service would be provided once planning has been finalized.

“A great many tears are being shed within the SAPS over the loss, and we will dearly miss Captain Nkosi and his service,” Captain Zwane said.
