He was arrested during a joint intelligence driven disruptive operation conducted by the Hawks’ Middelburg based Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) at Hendrina Med 24 on Wednesday,

5 April 2023. He is charged with Contravention of Section 17(5) Act 56 of 1974 (Practicing as a Health Professional while not registered with the Council).

It was reported that on Tuesday, 4 April 2023  the said “doctor” who was monitored by the police for some time was finally found on duty.

The doctor was interviewed by the HPCSA Inspectors and they found out that he was not registered with the Council as a medical practitioner.

However, the doctor allegedly informed the inspectors that he had his registration papers in the consulting room.
He could not produce any.

The bogus doctor was instructed to bring his registration documents to Middelburg DPCI offices the following day,

Wednesday, 5 April 2023. He still did not produce the documents to prove that he is a legally qualified health practitioner and allowed to practice in South Africa.

He was then arrested and charged with Contravention of Section 17(5) Act 56 of 1974 (Practicing as a Health Professional while not registered with the Council). Patients’ files and registers were seized for further investigation.

The Provincial Head of the Hawks Major General Gerber said that he was pleased by the manner in which his team is able to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure that the Mandate of DPCI is carried out diligently.

He further thanked the public for providing information that is assisting to bring perpetrators to book.

He concluded by warning members of the public to refrain from consulting doctors whom they don’t know.

They should rather go to the reputable medical centres for help.
