Driver charged, female passenger killed at local Prayer Oven in early morning crash

The driver is expected to make a first appearance in court next Tuesday (May 2).

A female occupant of a vehicle that rolled shortly before 04:00 earlier today, has sadly passed away.

The deceased has not been formally identified.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and rolled the car on the sharp bend next to the Middelburg Provincial Hospital.

The vehicle came to a standstill next to the Prayer Oven, where residents regularly come together to pray for Middelburg.

The car was found with the large wooden cross right behind the wreckage.

A big board with the words ”Jesus Lord save our town” stood in stark contrast with the tragic scene.

Two other occupants of the vehicle were admitted to the Middelburg Hospital.

One suffered numerous, serious, bone fractures.

The driver of the vehicle has been charged with culpable homicide.

The driver is expected to make a first appearance in court next Tuesday (May 2).
