Second phase of Solplaatjie road almost complete

The construction of the new tar road at Solplaatjie, will link to R35 road (Bethal road) and Mandela Drive.

The MMC responsible for Infrastructure and Technical Services, Cllr Marumo Sekgwele reported last year that the 900 metre road is meant to ease the traffic congestion at the corner Mandela Drive and Samora Machel for motorists travelling to and from the N4, N11, Bethal road and Middelburg.

“A storm water drainage system will also be installed so that during the rainy seasons when it floods, motorists will experience less flooding.

“It will thus also reduce travel time, congestion, accidents and increase safety. The road also accommodates heavy vehicles and light motor vehicles, too,” said Cllr Sekgwele.

Currently, the contractors are busy installing base layers and drainage systems on site and the road is almost completed. There is one sub-contractor for this project, 15 trucks that are hired locally to deliver material for the project, 1 water tanker, 2 TLB’s and one Community Liaison Officer.”

The project is set to be completed by 30 June.
