Man in medical emergency left abandoned by EMS, SAPS

A homeless man who was presumed to be dead and is in need of urgent medical attention, has been left lying in filth on the corner of Cowen Ntuli and Frame Street for hours, with Medical services arriving at the scene over an hour after being alerted.

When The Tackle Box employees arrived at work at 08:00 this morning, they were left shocked as they discovered what they presumed to be a corpse near their place of work.

After phoning the local police and ambulance services, they were left frustrated by the lack of urgency shown.

Medical services arrived at the scene at 09:45, over an hour from when called.

A journalist from the Middelburg Observer arrived at the scene at 08:45, where an employee from The Tackle Box stated, “I couldn’t be 100 per cent certain, but I recognise the man lying there is one of the many homeless people that sleep and use drugs in this area.”

Upon the Observer’s arrival, the man was presumed dead, as there was no sign of movement or breathing, with his eyes partially open without blinking.

The man then began to breathe heavily, the Observer journalist then rushed over to inform The Tackle Box employees that the man was still alive.

It is thought the man overdosed or is in the process of overdosing and is in the need of medical attention, as it is unknown for how long he has been in this condition.
