Dog killer walks free

The shooting of a nine-month-old pit bull at the Meyer Street long-distance taxi rank resulted in the dog being euthanised due to the owner’s inability to afford necessary treatment.

The dog was shot last Friday and sustained serious injuries after entering the taxi rank. The wounded animal was taken to the Kanonkop Animal Clinic, where one bullet was found inside the dog.

The SPCA expressed deep concern about the incident and wanted to open a case of animal cruelty. However, their efforts were foiled after the SAPS failed to identify the shooter.

The Middelburg Police haven’t opened a case of discharging a firearm in a public place and are not pursuing an animal cruelty case against the shooter.
