Fatalities reported in gruesome R555 accident where vehicle rolled, occupants ejected

Multiple deaths confirmed

Police are currently cordoning off a gruesome accident scene on the R555, Stoffberg-road, where a vehicle rolled moments ago, resulting in the death of passengers.

Current information available suggest that at least three occupants of the vehicle were flung from the rolling car, resulting in fatalities.

Forensic services have been dispatched to document the tragic scene, with motorists being notified that the investigation will take some time, with the road currently closed for investigations until further notice.

The road will be opened once the bodies had been removed.

Motorists should proceed with caution to the scene located around 15 km from Middelburg on the congested route.

The number of fatalities have not been confirmed but cell phone video of the scene currently doing the rounds, frame at least two deaths, with police urging for the footage not to be shared.

The footage is too graphic to publish.

The crash occurred around an hour ago with emergency services on scene tending to the injured.

The accident is the second fatal crash on the R555 this week with the driver of a bakkie succumbing to injuries on Thursday morning, following a head-on collision with a tanker.

The driver jumped from the vehicle before impact, resulting in the amputation of a foot.
