Let’s eliminate illegal dumping together!

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality Solid Waste Department is on a mission to eradicate the dumping of rubbish to keep the municipality clean.

This, however, requires residents to change their outlook regarding the common illegal activity.

Municipal workers and Ward 12 Aerorand Councillor Hennie Niemann embarked on a massive clean-up campaign.

The municipality cleaned up several areas, including the open area near John Magagula Street, Pongola Street, the area behind the Midwater Centre, and the open field near the railway line on Gouritz Street.

On Thursday, they cleaned up Blackmore Park, Vos Street and Verdoorn Street.

During their anti-illegal dumping campaign today, the Solid Waste Department, along with their new mascot, handed out pamphlets and educated residents about the effects of illegal dumping.

The municipality has decided to take a firm stand against litterbugs and encourages residents who witness people littering to take pictures and send them to their WhatsApp line on 064 915 3362.

Those found littering will be fined R1 000 or more, depending on the severity of the crime.
