Abandoned burnt car found on Van Dyksdrift road

The area surrounding the burnt-out car, was engulfed in flames.

A burnt-out car was found on the R575 Van Dyksdrift road in what may be a deliberate scorching of evidence.

The location of the vehicle was first reported on the Traffic Alert WhatsApp group at 07:30 by David Ross of Ross Towing and Recovery.

Possible malicious motive

The Middelburg Observer spoke to Ross, who believes there may be a more malicious motive than one may initially expect.

He said he reported the charred car to the police, with his years as an experienced first responder stirring his intuition that something felt off about the scene.

“Usually, after a hijacking, the culprits push the vehicle deep into the bush to burn it,” Ross said.

He continued to emphasise this point by identifying the significant distance the vehicle was from the road.

Ross concluded by stating, “There is a possibility that this vehicle may have been involved in a crime.”
