Runaway vehicle crashes in parking lot

A mechanical fault on a brand-new double cab bakkie resulted in a crash in the parking lot at Food Lover’s Market on Tuesday afternoon.

Ms Marlien Kemp refuted initial reports that her husband had a stroke behind the wheel of his brand-new GMW double cab, causing it to lurch through a small tree and into three different vehicles.

She explained to the Middelburg Observer that they sent the vehicle for diagnostic tests to determine what the cause of the crash was.

She and her husband, Martin, had just parked their vehicle on Tuesday afternoon and drove forward a little more when the automatic bakkie suddenly revved extremely high.

The bakkie then lurched forward, crashing over one of the small trees in the parking lot and into three different vehicles.

One of the other vehicles damaged in the crash.

Ms Kemp is grateful that nobody was seriously injured in the crash but admitted that serious damages were sustained to the affected vehicles, “I have no idea what went wrong. Whenever I read or see content on vehicles crashing through windows at shops, I always ask how on earth the drivers manage to get it right, but these things do happen. It was impossible to control our runaway vehicle.”
