In pictures: families distressed after strong Sunday winds

The winds caused serious damage to at least five houses in Somaphepha.

Families in farming areas have to start life over after their homes were destroyed by yesterday’s strong winds and rain.

The winds caused serious damage to at least five houses in Somaphepha.

Several homes lost their roofs, some buildings collapsed, and families were without power after their power lines were also damaged.

Fortunately, no injuries were sustained.

David Ntuli, one of the home owners, said the strong winds happened at about 19:00.

He and his family were in a room on the property when the severe wind destroyed their main house.

When the rain settled down, the family realised that the wind had destroyed their home and the bedrooms were flooded with water.

He said he didn’t go to work today in hopes of repairing his house.
