Sex worker murdered in Belfast, man hands himself over

A man handed himself over to the Belfast police after a quarrel resulted in the death of a sex worker.

A 33-year-old male suspect handed himself over to the Belfast police yesterday (Wednesday) after allegations that he murdered a sex worker on October 18.

According to a media statement by the police, the suspect allegedly required the services of the female victim and went to collect her from a street in Belfast before taking her to a farmhouse.

It is alleged that a quarrel started between them, which turned physical, and the suspect strangled and stabbed the woman.

After realising the woman had died, he tried to conceal her body by burying her remains in a shallow grave and covering it with stones.

Currently, the police are yet to locate the victim’s family.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Belfast Magistrate’s Court.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major-General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has expressed his deepest condolences to the family of the deceased.

“As we recently launched our festive season operation, one of our key focus points is to deal with the scourge of gender-based violence. An intense investigation has already begun, and the state is working towards ensuring justice is served for the murdered victim,’ said Mkhwanazi.
