Medical air compressor catches fire at Midmed

Earlier this morning a fire broke out at Life Midmed Hospital.

The incident happened shortly after 06:00, causing concern among residents who saw fire trucks at the hospital.

The fire occurred in an external compressor room where a medical air compressor caught alight, “Smoke was emitted into a small area of the hospital, however, patient safety was not compromised and hospital operations continued as normal,” hospital manager Sterna van der Merwe said.

The hospital’s management moved one ward and its reception area as a precaution.

Van der Merwe further said the fire department, along with the hospital’s engineering team, extinguished the fire and the matter is under investigation, “The hospital management thanks all stakeholders involved for their quick response and support, ensuring the safety of all our patients and staff,” she said.
