Rooies cyclist still in ICU

The young Rooies cyclist who fell victim to a hit-and-run while out cycling is still in ICU.

Lumardt Pienaar (18) was admitted to Life Cosmos Hospital on Sunday where he has been receiving treatment in the ICU for severe epileptic seizures since his accident.

The young cyclist had gone out cycling on Sunday evening when he was struck in the parking lot of Saveways Complex in eMalahleni.

According to Lumardt’s mother, Raylene Pienaar, Lumardt remains in the ICU after suffering another severe seizure.
“Fortunately, the doctor was in the ward at the time, and the staff were amazing,” Raylene said.

Lumardt has been moved into a private room where the environment is quieter and the lighting less, to prevent triggers.

“He was still very disorientated this morning,” Raylene informed.

She has once again thanked everyone for the continued messages of support, adding that people from as far as Lydenburg and Gauteng have reached out.
