Thousands of litres wasted due to pipe burst
A burst pipe has turned Rand Street into a river bringing businesses to a standstill.
According to Ena Uys, MHRF Councillor, a local business has been without water since yesterday evening 18:00 and cannot proceed with production.
Mr Werner du Toit confirmed that their business, which does HTPE recycling, relies on water as part of their manufacturing process.
The pipe in question has burst three times over the course of Tuesday and Wednesday, bursting the final time yesterday evening at 18:00.
The fault was reported to STLM, but no one from the Department of Water has attended to it since, nor has the water been shut down.
The water is flowing at such a rapid rate that it is lifting the paving bricks of the company’s drive way.
“Our company has been standing since yesterday evening until now, and it doesn’t seem to matter to the municipality how much loss of business we are suffering,” du Toit said.
Cllr Uys has referred the matter to the Municipal Manager, and an SMS sent by the municipality has alerted businesses in Extension 1 of water interruptions.
