The Liggie Ride is tonight!

The popular Liggie Ride, in which 200 cyclists took part last year, is back again tonight (November 22) at 19:00.

It has become one of the annual highlights on the town’s social calendar, with a winding spectacle of bicycles and flickering lights.

This year, the starting point is at the Hervormde Kerk Noord Gemeente on Vygie Street, where there is enough parking.

The route extends from the church right in Eike Street and then Springbok, Renoster, Sipres, Harry Gwala, Verkenner, Helen Joseph, Njala, Sipres, Pelican, Karee, Korhaan, Maroela, Sering, Springbok, Oribi, Mopani, Kanarie, Olienhout, Njala, Lilian Ngoyi, Tamarisk, Essenhout, Jasmyn, Springbok and back to the church.

It’s a festive event with residents camping out on sidewalks to cheer on the winding light snake and grandparents having their hands full keeping energetic grandsons in the fold.

The route is 20km long, and anyone can participate.

Participants are asked to bring necessities that make children’s lives easier. They will be handed over to Lu-Anne Dippenaar from House of Miracles at 18:45.
Lu-Anne can be contacted on 082 602 5139 or Middelburg Cycling Club chairman Jaap Beyers can be contacted on 082 802 7586.
