R350m Destiny Exclusive Hotel opens in Middelburg

Managed by Carnation Hotels, the luxury venue aims to drive regional economic growth and boost local employment.

Up to 300 permanent jobs were created for the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality during construction of the new R350m hotel near Middelburg Mall.

The hotel, which changed its name from the Radisson Hotel and Convention Centre to the Destiny Exclusive Hotel and Convention Centre, is set to become a major economic driver for the region.

In line with municipal hiring guidelines, 70% of the newly created operational roles will be strictly reserved for local residents, providing a welcome employment boost to the immediate community.

The hotel developer, Akani Properties, is a 100% black-owned firm led by Zamani Letjane.
The venue was funded through an 80% equity and 20% debt structure.

Perfectly positioned along a main travel route to the Kruger National Park, the property features luxury rooms, extensive conference space, dining areas and leisure facilities aimed at attracting both corporate visitors and holidaymakers.

Construction hurdles cleared

Construction suffered significant delays after the original builder, GD Irons, entered business rescue.
Rather than rushing the build, developer Akani Properties appointed Mshandukani Holdings to finish the project.

All municipal, electrical and gas safety clearances have now been officially signed off.

Ready for business

The venue demonstrated its full operational readiness on July 22 by hosting the Middelburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s annual investment summit and gala dinner.
The property will be managed independently by Carnation Hotels under its existing local ‘Destiny’ brand.
