Video: Elandslaagte murder – accused to spend Christmas behind bars

The four men accused of murdering two men in Elandslaagte and dumping their bodies under a bridge will be spending the festive season and New Year behind bars.

Reinhardt Steyn, Chriswell Dumisani Masilela, Dumisani Luthuli, and Stephan Wilson made a brief court appearance today in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court.

The four are accused of assaulting, kidnapping, and killing Thembeni Mnguni (29) and Wanda Mahlangu (21) in August.

They allegedly set Mnguni’s car alight as well.

The court denied the accused bail in October.

Since then, the lawyers of Steyn, Masilela, and Luthuli have appealed the decision in the Middelburg High Court.

Wilson, who was not present during the previous court appearance earlier this month due to the Paxton Correctional Service not transporting him to the court, was present today.

He was wearing a face mask due to the TB outbreak at the correctional centre.

He was not previously part of the bail application because he was sentenced to a 10-month prison sentence for contravening the Immigration Act.

Today, Magistrate Solomon Gololo postponed the matter to February 24 for further investigations due to outstanding DNA results.

Defence attorney Katlego Dolamo requested that the postponement be marked final.

His appeal was seconded by other defence attorneys.

Magistrate Gololo declined the application.
