Bail granted for alleged abductor

The man who is accused of abducting a woman from a rehabilitation centre at Botshabelo received bail yesterday.

Kenneth Motsoane’s bail application rolled over twice last week, and the bail hearing was held yesterday in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court.

The woman he is accused of kidnapping, Refilwe Khathatso, said in her statement that Motsoane took her against her will from the rehabilitation centre.
In court, it was also mentioned that Khathatso was recently at a rehab centre in Johannesburg, and she left the centre.

Bail was granted, and the case was postponed to January 13 for further investigation.

• Motsoane will also be in court on January 13 for an animal cruelty case. The SPCA opened a case against Motsoane in 2023 after a dog was found with its throat slit. The dog was still alive and had to be euthanised due to the severity of the wound.
Senior Inspector Petro Oberholzer (Manager, Middelburg SPCA) said the dog’s throat was cut ‘from ear to ear’.
