Pageant queens caged in support of the SPCA

The canines at the Middelburg SPCA played host to a royal tour.

Nine pageant titleholders from Middelburg and surrounding towns spent a night in the kennels to raise funds for the SPCA.

According to Naomi Steenkamp, Mrs Nkangala International Village 2024, the sleepover at the SPCA was an initiative spearheaded by the SPCA’s committee.

The pageant queens each paid a fee to spend the night in some of the kennels, in addition to making donations of dog food, blankets and cleaning materials.

“Three of the nine ladies could not sleep over, but had to pay a fine for not spending the night at the kennels,” Naomi told the Middelburg Observer.
More than R1 000 was raised by the initiative.

“We will be having another sleepover early next year, but this time, the initiative includes a challenge which will be revealed at a later stage,” Naomi said.
