Four suspects arrested after pursuit by Mid Alarms

A Mid Alarms reaction officer played an instrumental role in the arrest of four suspects as well as in confiscating a bakkie the SAPS were searching for.

According to Mid Alarms operational manager Johan Oberholzer, the company received a panic alarm on Monday night at China Tavern, resulting in one of the reaction officers being dispatched to the scene.

On his arrival, a vehicle outside the tavern, which is located on Meyer Street, had been allegedly damaged by six suspects who smashed out the vehicle’s windows.

The six suspects climbed into a white Toyota double cab and sped off.

The officer pursued the vehicle and followed it into Mhluzi while dispatching the SAPS, who finally managed to stop the bakkie and arrest four suspects.

According to Oberholzer, two of the six suspects were dropped off, resulting in only four being arrested. The SAPS also confirmed that the vehicle was wanted in connection with another incident.

“I am not sure why the suspects allegedly damaged the vehicle or whether there was a personal dispute, but the bakkie had no registration plates, and the licence disk belongs to another vehicle. The four suspects were taken into custody by the police officers, and the vehicle was confiscated.”

Oberholzer also warned residents of a high spike in crime noticed this month.

“During November, we saw a lower-than-normal number of crime reports, but this has escalated drastically during December, with several incidents in Gholfsig and Aerorand. Thieves are also very active in Kanonkop.”

Oberholzer urged residents to join their street WhatsApp groups, where they can alert their communities of suspicious behaviour.

“Should anyone be uncertain about whether their security measures at home meet requirements, they are welcome to give me a call for an assessment.”

Johan also urged anyone with more information on the white Toyota double cab to call him on 082 802 6399.

The white Toyota bakkie was confiscated by the police.
