Video: New method of spiking!

Motorists must be vigilant because there is a new method of spiking!

Middelburg motorists driving during the holidays are warned that there is a new method of spiking to get you to stop your vehicle, which ultimately ends in a robbery.

In a video, which is doing the rounds at the moment, people can be seen standing next to a road after their tyres were spiked.

Spikes are now being hammered into the tar surface, damaging the tyres and forcing victims to stop to change their tyres. Previously, spikes were thrown onto the road.

Several emergency WhatsApp groups in Middelburg, like the Dagpatrollie, Spikings Alzu to N12 Petroport, and the Community Policing Forum, shared the video to warn Middelburgers.

According to information, the video was taken in the Serule area on the A1 Gabarone to Francistown highway and posted on Botswana groups.

Arthur Hill (Dagpatrollie and Spikings Alzu to N12 Petroport groups) said they posted the video to warn everybody about the dangers of spiking, especially at this time of year.

Through the years, several motorists were robbed and assaulted, and a few have also been killed after they stopped due to spikes or rocks on the road.

• Last week, Willie Lazenby posted on the Spikings Alzu to N12 Petroport that there must have been spikes on the road ‘somewhere between Pretoria to Middelburg’, “Luckily it was only a small spike, so my vehicle’s ‘Run Flat’ tyres saved me,” Lazenby said.

• On December 10, the group also warned that a truck was spiked and the driver robbed at 02:00. The message said, “Members, please be aware when you drive on the N4 Bronkhorstspruit to Pretoria or Witbank (Emalahleni). There was a truck that got spiked and robbed this morning.”
The message did not state exactly where the incident on the N4 happened.
