WATCH: Downpour causes mayhem on Middelburg’s roads

The continuous downpour of rain since last night has caused mayhem on various routes in and around Middelburg.

Motorists are urged to be aware of widescale flooding in Middelburg and its surrounding towns.

Images and videos have shown that Samora Machel Drive near the Middelburg Mall has been affected by rising water levels early this morning.

Low lying areas such as Eastdene have also been flooded and motorists report that the speed humps in Koets Street, near the Eastdene Mosque are not visible.

The rising water levels have also affected surrounding towns, including Hendrina.

A collision involving four vehicles was also reported by Trac at 06:32 this morning. The collision occurred on the N4 between the Samora Machel- and Van Dyksdrift off-ramps.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution as rainfall is expected to last throughout the day with a 90% chance of rain forecast. Another strong downpour has been forecast for 16:00 onward this afternoon, with a 70% to 80% chance of rain.
