Bridges and roads closed as rain continues

“Residents are advised to move away and avoid any activities near the Klein Olifants River.”

The Steve Tshwete Local Municipality (STLM) has confirmed that a number of bridges/streets have been closed due to the torrential rainfall flooding the town.

This was done for the safety of motorists travelling in these areas, and residents are urged to make use of alternative routes.

STLM also announced that a sluice gate was opened at the Middelburg Dam at 11:00 today.

“Residents are advised to move away and avoid any activities near the Klein Olifants River,” they stated.

A sluice has also been opened at the Witbank Dam.

The following roads and bridges have been closed and barricaded by the roads department:

• Klein Olifants River Bridge at Kees Taljaard Stadium (Koppie Street)
• Mathole Park Bridge (Mhluzi)
• Zuid Bridge (Industrial area)
• Koets Street (Eastdene)
• Cowen Ntuli between Boncker and Verdoorn streets
• Weeber Street
• Zuid Street
• Vos Street
• Rondebosch
