12-year-old attacked, assaulted on his way home from school

A daily trip through Lion’s Park turned into a frightening scenario for a 12-year-old boy after he was attacked for his bicycle.

The father of the 12-year-old victim asked members of the public to be vigilant and look out for the attacker on one of the public community watch groups.
The young man and his family will remain anonymous because the boy is a minor.

According to the 12-year-old’s mother, the incident happened last Friday shortly after 13:00 while he was cycling home through Lion’s Park in Kanonkop.

He was approached by a tall, thin man clad in all black, and barefoot, who punched the boy in the face.
The boy’s hat fell off after being hit and he climbed off the bicycle to pick it up. His attacker then grabbed the bicycle and made off with it.

The boy then chased after his attacker and managed to push him off the bicycle. This allowed the boy to reclaim the bicycle and rush home, where he alerted his mother.

After the assault, the boy suffered swelling and bruising to his face and eye.

The attack has also made him more vigilant and alert about his surroundings, his mother explained.

A case was opened at the police station, but the perpetrator is still at large and residents are urged to remain vigilant.
