Muni warns that maintenance may result in 48-hour water outage

Planned maintenance on Middelburg’s water network may result in a 48-hour water outage.

According to a public notice circulated by the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality, the Water Services Maintenance Team will be doing repairs on a raw water pipe supplying the Vaalbank Water Treatment Plant on Tuesday (tomorrow).

Due to maintenance, the treatment plant will not be operating at full capacity for 48 hours and residents should expect water interruptions.

The following areas of Middelburg will be affected:

Aerorand; Mineralia; Rockdale; Nasaret; Rondebosch; Hlalamnandi; Mhluzi; Tokologo; Malope Village; Kanonkop; Dennesig; and Gholfsig.

According to DA Ward Councillor Johann Dyason, who also serves on the portfolio committee for infrastructure, the Water Services Maintenance Team cannot confirm whether the water supply will be interrupted completely or whether residents should just expect low water pressure.

“We advise all residents to make provision for water interruptions,” Dyason warned.

Residents have been urged to use water sparingly during this period, should they be fortunate to have a supply.
