Strikers shut licencing department

Residents looking to go to the licensing department today were turned away due to a strike.

The workers at the licensing department, located at the municipal civic centre, have downed tools.

It is not clear what prompted the protest.

The department was recently transferred to the Mpumalanga Community Safety and Security Liaison Department, and doesn’t fall under the Steve Tshewete Local Municipality anymore.

The strike started yesterday (Thursday) and it is not known when the protest will come to an end.

The Middelburg Observer contacted the spokesperson of Department of Community Safety and Security Liaison, Moeti Mmusi, but he could not be reached.
