Woman arrested for allegedly stabbing lover to death

A Middelburg woman who is accused of stabbing her boyfriend to death appeared in court on Monday on a charge of murder.

Zandile Mzana (38) made her first court appearance at the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder.
According to the police, Mzana was arrested last Friday at the Vaalbank informal settlement near the N4.

When the Middelburg police arrived at the informal settlement, they found the victim lying on his back with a stab wound on the left of his chest.
He was wearing black jeans without a T-shirt or shoes.

An eyewitness told the police that Mzana went to her sister’s house and was angry because she couldn’t find her boyfriend.
After a few minutes, the boyfriend arrived and the couple started fighting. They left the house and continued fighting outside.

It is alleged that Mzana went back inside the house to get a knife and stabbed her boyfriend.

When the police arrived at the house, witnesses identified Mzana. She had a bruised right eye, and was crying profusely. The police arrested her.
A paramedic declared the victim dead upon arrival.

The family of the deceased is yet to formally identify him. His identity is known to the Middelburg Observer but can’t be revealed until his family formally claims his body.

• Mzana will appear for her formal bail application next Monday.
